Regional Training Workshop on GMO Detection, Bangkok, 27-31 October 2003

The FAO-RAP project on “Capacity Building in Biosafety of GM Crops in Asia” GCP/RAS/185/JPN is sponsoring a Regional Training Workshop on GMO Detection/Testing from 27-31 October, 2003. This training is to be conducted by the DNA Technology Laboratory of the National Engineering and Biotechnology Center (BIOTEC) located at the Kamphaeng Saen Campus of Kasetsart University.

The training is one of the important activities of the project enabling it to attain its main objective of strengthening the capacities of the project participating countries for developing human resources, research and technology for biosafety including the assessment and management of potential risks associated with GM Crops.

Participants to the training program are researchers from the participating countries (Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam) involved in the national biotechnology/biosafety program.

The training program includes: isolation and quantification of DNA sample for GMO testing, PCR reaction fro Zein and Lecithin, Detection by gel base and Real-time PCR base, DNA isolation of unknown sample, PCR reaction of CaMV 35S and NOS and RR gene, analysis and interpretation of results.
